Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary

The sight of the velvety mountains that majestically rise against the backdrop of the shimmering lake is picture-perfect

The 77 sq km Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1984 and is close to the Idukki Arch Dam. Every year, the sanctuary offers magical experiences to countless travellers. The dam was built across the Kuravan and Kurathi hills - better known for the folklore of a couple who was cursed and turned to stone by Lord Rama.

A faint mist lingers above the sparkling lake. Sailing around the water provides a view of the dense forest that lines the lake's banks. The wildlife sanctuary is home to many rare and endangered animal and bird species. Visitors can see elephants, tigers, sambar deer, wild dogs, jungle cats, wild boar and other mammals. Birds like woodpecker, black bulbul, jungle fowl, laughing thrush, myna, kingfisher and peafowl can be found in this piece of heaven. If you are looking for a weekend getaway, this wildlife park in Idukki offers the perfect setting.
