Ramakkalmedu

Ramakkalmedu translates to the land where Lord Rama placed his leg and is also known as the Land of Rama's Stone

One of the most spectacular places in Kerala, Ramakkalmedu is a top the Western Ghats, at a height of about 3,500 ft above sea level. According to mythology, Rama is said to have stood at the edge of the cliff here in his search for Sita after she was abducted by King Ravana and taken to Lanka.

The spot has another specialty which makes it Kerala's ‘cradle of wind’ as it is one of the windiest places in Asia. With the landscape, it is the twin statues of the Kuruvan and Kuruvatti couple that is the main attraction here at Ramakkalmedu. It has the distinction of being the highest such statue in Kerala. The frog rock and turtle rock are other places of interest here. Hiking, paragliding, touring and camping are activities to try while here.
