Thangal Para draws people to a rock formation there at an elevation of 2500 feet. The site is of religious significance to Muslims as the enormous spherical rock contains the tomb of Husrath Sheikh Fariduddin, an Afghani Sufi saint who resided on the hill until his passing about eight centuries ago.
Legend has it that the rock formation was once a small stone that the saint used as a pestle to grind his paan (betel leaf). The rock is believed to have grown in size after his death. A steady, small source of water can be found between the cracks of the rock even in the hottest summers. Peace reigns supreme at Thangal Para where thousands of worshippers visit annually during the Uroos festival.
